Milan, its redevelopment and the latest works return to FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti’s SpazioFMG from 4th to 28th November 2009 with the exhibition “Milano work-in-progress 2”, after the success of the first edition held in 2008. MABarquitectura, Consalez Rossi Architetti Associati + Vudafieri Saverino Partners, studio elementare Paolo Pasquini Architetti and 5+1AA Agenzia di Architettura alfonso femia gianluca peluffo are the architecture firms featured at the gallery on Via Bergognone by the curators Luca Molinari and Simona Galateo; the projects on show deal with two very different topics which are both offering interesting prospects for experimental, leading-edge design: public housing and retail malls.
The MABarquitectura project on via Gallarate and the project on via Civitavecchia by Consalez Rossi Architetti Associati + Vudafieri Saverino Partners are put on public display for the first time: both are currently almost completed and are winners of the “Living in Milan” competition, the first large public venture, in association with Fondazione Cariplo, to put new energy and stimuli into the design of public housing in Milan.
“Milano work-in-progress 2” also focuses on the subject of new retail developments through the design for the Food Park in the Maciachini area by studio elementare Paolo Pasquini Architetti and the Retail ParkArea at Milanofiori by 5+1AA Agenzia di Architettura alfonso femia gianluca peluffo: two works within major redevelopment projects, now nearing completion.
“These are new-generation works, designed by some of the most interesting young architects on the Italian scene, and they convey the concept of a different Milan, which looks out towards Europe and expresses the idea of contemporary architecture responsive to its users’ needs, such as the physical and environmental quality of the complexes created,” the exhibition’s curators comment. “With ‘Milano work-in-progress 2’, Spazio FMG continues its investigation of the near future and reinforces its mission as a space open to quality architecture and a responsible approach to the destiny of our habitat.”
